EXORDIUM - The Beginning

EXORDIUM is the scintillating flagship event of IEEE Student Branch GEC Barton Hill, Thiruvananthapuram, which brings together an exciting range of talks, workshops and competitions for students. The mission of the mega flagship event of the Student Branch is to mould young professionals with industrial expertise and skills essential for technological advancement. Due to the pandemic, EXORDIUM was conducted virtually as a 3-week-long online event. It comprised 22 events which included both technical and non-technical events aimed at helping the students develop their technical, managerial, collaborative and volunteering skills. Not only did EXORDIUM engage the students of GEC Barton Hill but students from other universities also got the opportunity to participate in the mega event.

The meeting commenced with the IEEE members reciting the Code of Ethics administered by Gautam S Thampy (Vice Chair, IEEE SB GECBH). All the members & guests were welcomed by Dr. Birenjith P.S. (Branch Counselor, IEEE SB GECBH). The official meeting was presided by Dr. N. Vijayakumar (Sr. IEEE member & Principal, GEC Barton Hill). During the presidential address, he congratulated the ExCom for coming up with the three day conclave and extended his happiness in the activities conducted by the IEEE Student Branch at college which has contributed much to the technical development of the students. The Chief Guest of the meeting was Mrs. Sarada Jayakrishnan (Chair, IEEE Kerala Section). She greeted the IEEE members on the Anniversary & congratulated the ExCom for pulling up the 10 pre-events as well as the three day conclave as part of Anniversary Celebrations. The student branch website earned a special mention from the Chief Guest. Dr. K C Raveendranathan (Sr. IEEE Member & Principal, RIET Kottayam) who is also the founding Branch Counselor of the Student Branch was the Guest of Honor. 

Results of the competitions conducted prior to the Anniversary Celebrations were revealed by the chief guest. The Department of Electronics & Communications emerged as the overall winners followed by the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Runners up). Mr. Nandan S (Chair, Student Activities Committee, IEEE Kerala Section) graced the occasion with his presence & gave an energetic felicitation speech congratulating the Student Branch. All former Branch Counselors were invited to the meeting & all of them expressed their happiness during the felicitation. The IEEE ExCom had contacted all the previous fifteen Chairpersons of the student branch who have led the activities in the past. A short video incorporating their message for the members was compiled and presented during the meeting which was nostalgic for the faculties as well as the IEEE Alumni. The meeting officially concluded with a vote of thanks by Adhithyaa G (Chair, IEEE SB GECBH) in which he thanked all the ExCom members for working as a team to make all the events a grand success.
